By Richard Low, Managing Director of The Property Explorer
September is Suicide Prevention Month – a time to break the silence, challenge stigma, and remind everyone that mental health matters. At The Property Explorer, our Owner Director Oliver Brooks is taking this mission personally, stepping into the ring – and onto the running track – to raise money and awareness for Back & Forth Men’s Mental Health Charity.

Why Ollie Fights
Earlier this year, Ollie’s eldest son woke up on Easter Monday with severe Bell’s Palsy. Overnight, the right side of his face was paralysed. Eating and drinking became difficult. He had to wear an eye patch to protect his eye. At just 22, after already overcoming a challenging start in life as a baby born at 26 weeks, this diagnosis was devastating.
Ollie saw first-hand the impact this had on his son’s confidence and mental wellbeing. “I’ve lost sleep thinking about the quiet wars men fight behind closed doors,” he says.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men aged 20–49 in the UK. Yet so often, men are told to “man up” rather than speak out. Ollie has been open about his own battles, too:
“I spent 30 years wondering what was wrong with me, not realising I didn’t have to live with it. Asking for help is a sign of strength, never weakness.”

Turning Struggle into Action
Ollie stepped into the ring this September for a White Collar Boxing match – and won. But his fight doesn’t stop there. In October, he’ll take on a 10K run to continue raising money for Back & Forth, a local charity supporting men’s mental health.
“This isn’t about my fight,” Ollie says. “It’s about making noise for dads, sons, brothers, and mates who’ve been told to stay silent. Real talk – just checking in on someone could save their life.”
